Social Media Cleanup Is Freeing

A relaxed woman sitting at her desk with a phone and laptop as social media notifications drift away and a small dark cloud begins to disappear, symbolizing the relief of digital decluttering.

I’ve been cleaning up my social media accounts lately, and I have to say, it feels great!

I don’t even know how many accounts I’ve created over the years. Some because I wanted to try something new, others because everybody seemed to be moving to a new platform, and of course, as a content creator, you should be everywhere. Or at least that’s what we’re told.

And then you end up with all these accounts that you really don’t use much, but they’re still there.

And somewhere in the back of your head, there’s this little voice telling you that you should post something. You should be more active. You should do something with that account.

I don’t know why it bothered me, because it’s not like anybody was forcing me to post anything.

But it did.

So I’ve been going through my accounts and deleting the ones I don’t really need anymore.

And you know what? Every time I deleted one, I had this wonderful feeling of, “Don’t have to think about that no more!”

One less thing.

It’s funny how something you hardly ever think about can still take up space in your mind. Or maybe I was thinking about it more than I realised.

I still have social media accounts, of course. I’m not disappearing from the internet. That would be rather strange considering how much I enjoy creating things and sharing them.

But now I only have a few places left where I can post if I feel like it.

And that’s the part I really like. If I feel like it.

Not because I should. Not because some algorithm wants me to be active. And certainly not because I need another thing on my already rather long list of things to do.

I wonder why it took me so long to do this. I mean, it’s not like I didn’t know I could delete the accounts.

Maybe we just get used to having all these things hanging around, even when we no longer have any real use for them.

Anyway, that little dark cloud that’s been hanging over my head, reminding me of all the places I should be posting?

It’s pretty much gone.

And I didn’t have to create a single piece of content to make it happen.

Now that’s a nice change!

Happy Monday!
