Can AI Be Just for Fun?

I’ve been spending quite a bit of time lately playing with AI.

Creating characters, giving them voices, making animations, and coming up with stories that sometimes take rather unexpected turns.

And I’ve been having fun.

Not because I’m trying to become more productive or solve a particular problem. Sometimes I just want to see what I can create.

It got me thinking about how we talk about AI.

So much of the conversation seems to revolve around what AI can do for us. How it can save time, improve our work, help us learn, or make us more efficient.

But does everything have to be useful?

I’ve always enjoyed exploring technology simply because I’m curious about what I can do with it. Sometimes those explorations lead somewhere interesting. Sometimes they don’t.

And I think that’s perfectly fine.

Maybe we don’t talk enough about the pleasure of playing, experimenting with ideas, and creating something simply because we feel like it.

So here’s what’s on my mind this Monday.

Can AI be something we use just for fun, without needing to justify what we create?
