When Life Presses Pause for You

On My Mind Monday — October 12, 2026

An open notebook filled with handwritten thoughts about creativity and future directions rests on a wooden table beside a pen, coffee mug, and glowing lantern. Rain falls outside the window as warm candlelight illuminates the quiet room during a storm.

I had plans for Friday.

It was my blogging day, and I had things I wanted to get done. But a hurricane had other ideas. The electricity went out, and suddenly my plans didn’t matter very much.

No computer. No internet. No working on my websites or editing videos.

I could still use my phone for a while, but with no way of knowing when the power would return, I didn’t particularly want to waste the battery.

So I picked up a notebook and a pen.

And something interesting happened.

Instead of thinking about all the things I couldn’t do, I started thinking about things I hadn’t really given myself time to consider.

One of them was Creator in the Loop, my YouTube channel. I’ve been exploring AI and how it affects our everyday lives, but lately I’ve also been wondering what direction I want to take the channel next.

Do I want to continue with more conversational videos, where I explore questions about AI and what it means for us? Or would I enjoy returning to more practical tutorials, helping people use technology in their everyday lives?

I don’t have an answer yet.

But there I was, sitting without electricity, writing down thoughts about what I actually enjoy doing.

And I began wondering why it sometimes takes an interruption to give ourselves that kind of space.

We live with so many possibilities to fill every moment. If we have a few minutes, we can check something on our phones. If we’re curious about a question, we can look up the answer immediately. If we have an idea, we can open an AI chat and start developing it.

I do all those things myself, and I enjoy them.

But I also wonder if having so many ways to act on a thought means we sometimes forget to simply stay with it for a while.

To let it wander.

To see where it goes without immediately trying to turn it into something useful.

Of course, I would have preferred not to have a hurricane interrupt my week. Losing electricity isn’t particularly relaxing, especially when you don’t know how long it will last.

And I certainly wasn’t sitting there feeling grateful for the inconvenience.

But looking back, I find it interesting that the moment I couldn’t do my usual work, I started questioning what I wanted that work to look like.

Maybe that’s something I need to pay more attention to.

Not necessarily taking longer breaks or putting away all my technology. I don’t think that’s the answer for me.

Perhaps it’s simply allowing a little more room between having a thought and doing something with it.

Because sometimes the thoughts worth exploring aren’t the ones that arrive when we’re busy looking for ideas.

They’re the ones that appear when we finally have a moment to wonder.

And I’m still wondering about those two directions for Creator in the Loop.

I think I’ll let that question stay open for a little while.

What’s on your mind this Monday?

Have you ever had an unexpected interruption that gave you time to think about something you’d been putting aside?
