I started crocheting again recently.
And somewhere around the same time, something else started happening.
My thinking about other creative work became clearer.
I noticed it first with writing. Then with some of the decisions I had been making around my videos. Things that had felt slightly scattered seemed easier to see.
I don’t know if those things are connected.
Maybe the timing is completely coincidental.
But it made me wonder if I have been thinking about creativity too much as separate activities.
Writing is one kind of creativity. Making videos is another. Crochet belongs somewhere else entirely.
Except maybe our brains don’t divide things quite that neatly.
There is something different about making something with your hands. Repeating a stitch. Watching something slowly take shape without needing to explain what it means or where it is going.
Perhaps that gives another part of the mind some room.
Or perhaps doing anything creative reminds us what it feels like to make rather than constantly evaluate what we are making.
I don’t really know yet.
But I keep coming back to the same question.
Does one type of creativity feed other types?
